Daytime Doubles Leagues The RA offers three league options. All are open format, where the team can be two men, two women, or any gender combination. Games are 1.5 hours long. The Monday and Thursday leagues are for fixed teams while the Friday league is a draw format. Stick Curling League Tuesdays 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm Category D | Program barcode: 284059 The Tuesday league is for stick curlers (standing or in a wheelchair) of any gender who are interested in learning the 2-person Stick game. Fixed teams are expected to play together for the full curling season. 2-person Stick curling is a fast-paced game of 6 ends, with 6 rocks thrown by each team per end, and which takes only an hour to play. There is NO sweeping between the hog lines by any player. The Stick curling league presents a great opportunity to hone both your strategy and execution skills. The number of games played at 2:00pm will depend on the number of teams registered. It is preferable to sign up with a teammate. If you sign up as an individual, the convenor will make every effort to pair people up. In the event of an uneven number of individual sign-ups, you may be placed on a spares list. (Note: the league is not instructional; some experience in delivering with a stick is required.) Convenor: Diane Burgess (email: [email protected]) Open Fixed League Wednesdays 11:00 am (overflow at 9:00 am) Category B | Program barcode: 284063 The Open Fixed Daytime League is for teams who wish to play together for the full curling season. Teams can be made up of all men, or all women, or any gender combination. The league welcomes curlers of all levels. Please contact the convenor if you have any questions. Convenor: Cynthia Gray (email: [email protected]) Women's Fixed League Fridays 1:00 pm (overflow at 9:00 am) Category B | Program barcode: 284067 The Women’s Fixed League is for teams who wish to play together for the full curling season. The season generally begins with a round robin session, after which the teams are grouped into divisions based on their round robin standing. The games are scheduled at 1:00 pm on Fridays. Members who sign up without a team are not guaranteed to play. Please contact the convenor if you have any questions. Convenor: Team Bérubé (email: [email protected]) Men's Fixed League Mondays 11:00 am and 1:00 pm Category B | Program barcode: 284065 The Men’s Fixed League is for teams who wish to play together for the full curling season; teams are generally assembled by a skip. The league is normally divided into A and B divisions. Games are typically played on Mondays at 11:00 am; the number of games played at 1:00 pm will depend on the number of teams registered. The league plays 5-game rounds. Members who sign up without a team are not guaranteed to play. Please contact the convenor if you have any questions. Convenor: Greg Kresko (email: [email protected]) Women's Draw League Mondays 1:00 pm; Tuesdays 9:00 am; Wednesdays 1:00 pm; Thursdays 9:00 am Category A | Program barcode: 284066 The daytime Women’s Draw League offers the opportunity for members to curl more than once at different times/days during the week for the one draw league fee. The season is divided into four or five sessions, each of which is approximately 4 to 6 weeks. For each session, members can sign up to play in different draw days and time slots. League capacity is set so that members are guaranteed an average of at least 1.5 games per week over the season. New draw teams are set up for each session by a committee which will consider the position preferences expressed by individuals with the goal to ensure a reasonably balanced slate of teams. Convenor: Sherry Perkins (email: [email protected]) Men's Draw League - Full Tuesdays 11:00 am and Thursdays 11:00 am Category A | Program barcode: 284064 The daytime Men’s Draw League offers the opportunity for members to curl up to two draw games during the week for the one draw league fee. The majority of draws are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 am. Depending upon the number of teams, some games may also be scheduled for Tuesdays at 9:00 am and Fridays at 11:00 am, on a rotational basis. Draw teams are composed by the convenor based on individual ability to provide some balance among the teams and to ensure each team is competitive. New teams are drawn up approximately every 4 to 6 weeks. The goal is to make curling enjoyable for everyone and ensure that the emphasis remains on recreation. Convenor: Bob Elliott (email: [email protected]) ADULT Evening LeagueS
Open Draw Leagues The Club has two evening open draw leagues, each offering new curlers a friendly environment to develop their technique while more experienced curlers can sharpen their skills. Members sign up individually and are placed on a team by the convenor for draws that typically run for five to six weeks. Though members indicate their preferred position (lead, second, third, skip), the convenor makes the ultimate decision on a player's position based on abilities and an effort to balance the teams. (Note: If you are interested in playing in both the Monday and Wednesday evening draw leagues, you must sign up and pay for each of the two leagues.)
Open Fixed League Tuesdays 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm Category A | Program barcode: 284070 The Tuesday Fixed League is for teams who wish to play together for the full curling season. Teams can be made up of all men, or all women, or any gender combination. They are divided into divisions based on prior wins and losses. After each round, the teams with the better W-L records will move up to a higher division, teams with fewer wins will move down to a lower division, so generally teams will play against opponents of similar skill levels. Games will generally alternate between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm from week to week. If you are looking for teammates, please contact the convenor. Members who sign up without a team are not guaranteed to play. Convenor: John Buchko (email: [email protected]) Evening Doubles Leagues The RA offers two league options. Teams will play together for the full curling season; no record is kept of wins, losses, or standings. Teams can be made up of all men, all women, or any gender combination. DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMSWinter 2025 registration now open!
No membership required. Everyone is welcome! ADULT PROGRAMS
Looking to start curling and join a Club? The RA offers you the chance to:
All this in a low-pressure supportive environment. If this is for you, then sign up for a full season of instruction. We start with a 10 week Learn-To-Curl program in the fall, and then continue with a Development Program after the year end break. Both are delivered by qualified instructors. See below for the full descriptions of each part of the program. Development Program (Winter 2025)
This program is specifically designed for graduates of the Learn-To-Curl Program and for other front-end curlers seeking more experience. It is open to players in their first three years of curling or to those who wish to gain more experience by playing “up” a position or two. Participants can select either a course in the evening (Mondays at 5:00 pm) or in the daytime (Wednesdays at 9:00 am). Participants provide their own equipment. The first 8-10 weeks of the program include practice drills, off-ice lectures on specific topics (e.g., strategy or angles of deflection), and a short game with on-ice instructors helping with strategy. The last few weeks are focused largely on game play, with continued on-ice help with strategy. Sign-up can be as an individual, or in groups of two, three, or four people wishing to play together.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Youth Instructional Program (Ages 8 - 17) - FULL
Saturdays 9:00 am to 11:00 am October 19, 2024 - April 6, 2025 The RA Youth Curling program welcomes new and returning curlers from the ages of 8 to 17. The focus is on having fun while learning the fundamentals of the game in a relaxed environment. Our program is based on a curriculum developed by CurlON and is delivered by trained instructors. The Fall portion of the program focuses on instruction for novice curlers, and reviewing skills and continued training for returning intermediate/advanced curlers. Coaching continues for the novice and intermediate levels throughout the Winter session, with an emphasis on drills to advance curling skills followed by game play. The more experienced curlers focus on game play (including 4-person, triples, and doubles). Students are grouped by skill level, and where possible by broad age group. We also look for opportunities and make up teams to participate in local recreational bonspiels. Register early to avoid disappointment. Coordinator: Margo Burgess (email: [email protected]) FEES:
